~Mission statement~
The mission of Deer Isle Hostel will be to serve as an affordable accommodation for travelers, as well as a source of inspiration for a different way of life. We’ll focus on community and simplicity while offering guests to take part in the daily life here, providing a hands-on learning experience with organic gardening, homestead style construction and simple handicrafts. The hostel will function off the grid with solar-powered electricity. A hand pump will provide water and cooking will be done on a wood stove, which also will heat the house. Deer IsleHostel is individually owned and will operated as a private rental unaffiliated with any religious or political beliefs. The nightly rates from our future guests will be geared towards sustaining and maintaining the services it provides, without the intent for profit. With a world in change and the threat of global warming, Deer Isle Hostel will be an alternative to excess consumption, concrete and the increasing distance between humans and nature; we will exemplify sustainable practices that guests can take home and implement in their daily lives.
